Global Innovation Exchange (GIX) / Steve Ballmer Building
GIX is a partnership project with the University of Washington, Microsoft, and Tsinghua University of China. The project constructed a 200,000 SF master’s program university with ground-floor retail within the Spring District. JMJ TEAM provided civil engineering, planning and permit facilitation for the project. The design included site design, utilities, frontage and a public outdoor plaza with plantings over the parking garage lid. JMJ TEAM coordinated with the landscape architect to ensure all design elements were compatible and met stormwater requirements. JMJ TEAM also provided the environmental documentation, including SEPA and a Greenhouse Gas Emissions analysis. We worked with the project team as well as city reviewers to obtain all land use and site permits for the project. The project was completed on time and welcomed its first students in the fall of 2017.
