Justin Jones, PE
Co-Owner / Senior Civil Engineer
Justin is a civil engineer with nearly 20 years of experience specializing in civil engineering for development and redevelopment projects. His expertise in civil engineering and the land use process makes him an active participant in master planning, site entitlements, site civil design, roadway design, low impact stormwater design and project and construction administration.
In his free time, Justin enjoys experiencing well-designed communities, neighborhoods and buildings (including breweries!). He has designed and constructed many of the furnishings at JMJ TEAM, including our staff’s signature sit/stand orange desks.
Co-Owner / Senior Land Use Planner
Joleen is a land use planner and project manager with more than 15 years’ experience in the A/E industry. Her expertise in getting through the permitting process and planning documents makes her an asset to project teams from design through construction.
Outside of work, Joleen enjoys being with her family, hot yoga, and the outdoors. She is involved in the community as Sumner Design Commission Chair, Rotary Club of Sumner and the Sumner Downtown Promotion Association.
Justin and Joleen have two kids, ages 14 and 12, a goldendoodle (Lola), and a corgi (Fletcher).
Ian Harkins, EIT
Ian is a civil engineer with four years of experience working on projects ranging from the Washington State Fair to office high-rises. Ian has a practical approach to problem solving and works collaboratively with all disciplines.
Outside of work, Ian enjoys concerts and the outdoors, particularly camping, hiking and skiing. Possibly his love for the outdoors comes from his experience in the Boy Scouts, where he earned the top designation of Eagle Scout.
Business Office Manager
Abigayle joined JMJ TEAM in November 2021 and has a degree in Business Administration.
She moved to the Puget Sound Area two years ago and enjoys finding new ice cream and/or coffee shops to enjoy with her husband Ronald. Abigayle spends a lot of her free time volunteering at her church in Kent where her husband is the Youth Pastor. Ronald and Abigayle will be welcoming their first child into this world this winter and have a cat named Cleo.
Ryan is lead construction manager with more than 30 years of experience in development and construction. Ryan worked as a firefighter in Pierce County, including his last position as Fire Chief for Graham Fire and Rescue until his retirement. His years in public service has given him experience communicating with the public and an approach to serve the public in all his work.
In his free time, Ryan enjoys the outdoors including skiing, hiking and spending time with his family.
Derek Manaka, EIT
Derek joined JMJ TEAM in fall 2021 and has a civil engineering degree from Seattle University. At Seattle U, Derek was on a student/professional team that used leftover cross-laminated timber to build ADU houses. That project won an NCEES Engineering Education award in 2021. In his free time, Derek enjoys watching sports, cooking, and playing basketball.
Rick Hermes, PE
Senior Civil Engineer
Rick’s passion for civil engineering began in high school when he began highway design for the North Dakota Highway Department. Now Rick has more than 50 years of experience, specializing in water and wastewater systems, surface water, street and arterial improvements and environmental remediation.
In his free time, Rick enjoys biking, working on his chip carvings, and hanging out with his dog, Buster.
Colby joined JMJ TEAM in January 2020 with five years of drafting experience. He has an AA in Design Drafting from Green River Community College. His drafting certifications in both Architectural and Mechanical design give Colby a thorough understanding of various disciplines that he applies to Civil drafting.
When he isn’t with his Siberian Husky puppy, Kenai, Colby enjoys snowboarding, surfing and is restoring a 1966 dune-buggy.
John joined JMJ TEAM in 2020. He has a civil engineering degree from Washington State University and practical experience performing traffic impact analyses for development projects.
John enjoys hiking, playing sports (especially soccer), working out, and hanging out with his rat terrier dog, Pepito.
